wat the
stage is to me...
since young, i hv been frequenting the stage, and learnt to love it. explains y my life feels rather
empty now without the stage.
i rem my
first stage perf was in
kindergarten. our annual graduation concert. i wasn't a flower, neither was i dressed up lk a particular animal or playing w hula hoops n stuff. i was the host for the show (aka
emcee) along w another fren,
minyi. i stil hv e videotape on which it was recorded and hv since transferred it into a cd. tech has changed. i tink my
mum bought it cos i was in it. watching the tape makes mi wanna laff at myself...super blur one. not lk i v not blur now but yeah u get the idea. so tt was e first stage perf i had.
oh yeah...forgot to add some
bkgrd info on my childhood. i was a
potato when i was young. cos i came fr an
english speaking family. read
eng newspprs. so onli noe eng. yes i watched channel 8, esp those drama serials w 一姐 zoe tay, 二姐 fann wong n 三姐 ann kok at tt time...but i read e
eng subtitles in order to understan the show. tt explains my high degree (in short sightedness). i come fr a hokkien speaking teochew family on my paternal side, sounds confusing doesnt it? but juz means im teochew, but my relatives speak hokkien, onli to my grandparents then they speak teochew. so last time when my grandpa ask mi anithing, i wil juz nod my head. cos i don understan anithin...saem goes for hokkien. then alwyz end getting laffed at...cos i got tt blur face...n onli noe how to nod my head. *nodz* til now, i do understan la, but if u tell mi to speak, it stil sounds weird...
as e potato mi entered
pri sch, i got exposed to chi...joined the
chi drama club, er2 tong2 yan3 yi4 ban1 儿童演绎班...hd v nice teachers...husband n wife team...then they got appear on tv for cameo roles, lk principal teacher or grandma tt kind of stuff...so fr then on, i was into chi areadi, n bcame i can sae billingual ba...rem i took part in
cross talk w my fren
kaisi, the jin mu dan trophy or sth...took part in the
courtesy skit nationals...den for sch perfs: recited
poetry, told
stories,
yan3 jiang2 competition...acted as animals of plays: jiao1 ao4 de4
xiao3 gong1 ji1 骄傲的小公鸡(rem i had to bun up my at tt time long hair), gui1 tu4 di4 er2 ci4 sai4 pao3 龟兔第二次赛跑(i was e
rabbit yeah)...
i stil rem in pri 1...was stil v potato...so took part in
eng poetry recitation...den it was on slping so i wore my PJs n took my doll up...haha...den even took part in
indian dance...e teacher liked mi alot cos i was e onli chi gal in there...haha...played the
angklung bfore oso...an instrument made of bamboo...i rem i played the note E...as i was head prefect last time (yes surprise surprise) i got to lead the
pledge, national anthem, eye exercise, give commands...even got to
lower the flag n stuff...den oso got perform for
teachers dae and the sci fair...those were the daes...b it beeg stage or small stage...
in
sec sch...was in
chinese orchestra. so was on the stage for dazu 大组( whole orchestra) and xiao zu 小组(erhu ensemble)...stil rem once i played the zhonghu中胡 as accompaniment...forgot for wat song liao...but i tink it was a chui da 吹打 perf...apart fr co...i did more
hosting...speech n prize giving dae, national dae, our orchestra's china tour, morning announcements...all these little 'perfs' made mi love tokking in frt of ppl even more...i sang for
talentime evri yr...sec 1 was evelyn tan's xiao de zi ran, sec 2 was teresa teng's yue liang dai biao wo de xin, sec 3 was (i forgot oops...), sec 4 was a duet w my
hungyi kor...we sang ni zui zhen gui for the auditions, den changed to this gigi leung n leo ku duet for e comp...i forgot e name agn...*cripes*
stil joined in story telling competitions in sec sch...sec 1 was qun2 kou3群口 story telling...e title was ben4 niao3 xian1 fei1笨鸟先飞...n yes i was e ben niao in e story...this boy(!) who stutters but v hardworking...sec2 was dan1 kou3 jiang3 wei3 ren2 gu4 shi4单口讲伟人故事...i told the story abt hua4 tuo2 华佗the great doctor...sec 3 was wen2 zhang1 lang3 du2 文章朗读as a grp...forgot the title liao...den as a class in inter sch comps oso got...zhan4 qi3 lai2 de4 mei3 li4 站起来的美丽in sec 3 n huang2 di4 de4 an4 hao4 皇帝的暗号or sth in sec 2...
yepz..so i was alwyz described as e 'alwyz on stage as host, got sing song n in co tt gal...' haha...

xiao pin...i was in a grp w
chendi, weizhong, jennifer...hope i din miss anione out...we had much difficulty comin up w a script...but in e end we settled down w our hei1 (literally translated as black)...n i got best actress...was a pleasant surprise...had
geyao for both yrs...yr 1 sang she song re dai yu lin w
jiahui n meiwen...den yr2 sang
qiumin n meiling's song...n it was geyao tt brought mi in to mainworks...yr 2 took part in
lv yuan...was e schizo lili...similarly, our story underwent mani changes, i stil hv all e copies of the scripts w mi...rem the times w the cast n directors:

eunice, joycelyn, xiling, cuiqin n lydia...
sang she song w
lynnie n zhen for alpha house function...
hosted mooncake fest celebrations...
presentli,
frequent perfs w the mainworks, belting out my own compositions...been to suntec, west mall, spore conference hall, marina mandarin hotel, telok kurau park, sheares hall...had our own perf at mox bar n cafe last yr...
thinking of my nxt perf on stage, as in theatre...*wonder*
to all who hv supported mi in my perfs n given mi the drive to continue on in one wae or another. a great beeg THX.
